Testing and Compliance
Testing and Compliance, within the Division of Curriculum, ensures the effective coordination of assessments and adherence to federal and state education mandates across the East Orange School District. Responsibilities include the planning and administration of major assessments such as NJSLA, NJGPA, WIDA, PSAT, SAT, AP, i-Ready, LinkIt, myIGDIs, and CogAT for over 11,000 students. These assessments generate data that inform instructional planning, guide targeted interventions, and support curriculum development. A comprehensive assessment calendar is developed annually to streamline implementation and maximize instructional time.
Support is provided to school-based testing coordinators through training, technical assistance, and test security observations to uphold standardized protocols. Real-time data analysis supports school and district leadership in identifying trends, driving instructional decisions, and closing achievement gaps. Communication with families and staff ensures transparency, clarity, and shared understanding of assessment practices and their impact on student growth.
In addition to assessment coordination, Testing and Compliance manages all federal program monitoring and reporting under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). This includes oversight of Title I, II, III, and IV funds, as well as targeted initiatives supported by grants such as 21st Century, AmeriCorps, and the Verizon Grant. Compliance efforts include documentation for Parent Right to Know notifications, military family outreach, non-public school consultations, and ongoing fiscal and programmatic reporting.
With a focus on equity and academic excellence, Testing and Compliance supports initiatives that address the needs of multilingual learners, students with disabilities, and economically disadvantaged populations. Through strategic planning, consistent monitoring, and stakeholder engagement, this work strengthens the district’s ability to deliver rigorous, data-informed instruction and ensure that all students have access to the tools and support they need to succeed.
