Excitement filled the halls of Patrick F. Healy Middle School as students, staff, and community members gathered to celebrate the unveiling of the school’s first-ever mural, a bold and colorful masterpiece created by local artists Hans Lundy, Malcolm Rolling and Jarrell Rolling, with the creative help of Patrick F. Healy students.
From brainstorming ideas to adding their own artistic touches, students played a key role in designing and bringing the mural to life. Their vision helped shape a work of art that truly represents the school’s spirit, diversity, and pride.
This inspiring project was made possible through a meaningful collaboration with Councilman Bergson Leneus, who worked closely with the school to secure funding and support the effort from start to finish.
“Murals hold a special place in the culture of a middle school. They inspire pride, spark creativity, and give students a sense of belonging in the building,” stated Principal Kamilia Scantlebury. “For our students, seeing art that reflects themselves and their community within their own school walls will be a powerful reminder that their voices, stories, and dreams matter. This unveiling will not only mark the introduction of a beautiful piece of art, but also a lasting symbol of partnership, hope, and student inspiration.”
For the students who helped design it, and for all who pass by, the mural is more than just paint on a wall. It is a symbol of identity, creativity, and unity, showing that when students and the community come together, amazing things can happen.
Patrick F. Healy Middle School’s new mural will continue to inspire students to take pride in who they are, celebrate their creativity, and dream even bigger.
