Pre-Kindergarten
To register your child for the current school year they MUST be at least 3 or 4 years old by October 1st of the current school year.
For Pre-kindergarten, your child must have a current copy of immunization (shot) records that are age-appropriate along with a current physical. Physical must be signed and stamped by MD. These shots are required and are without exception:
- 4 doses DTaP
- 3 doses Polio
- 1 dose MMR
- 1 dose HIB (minimum of 1 dose after the 1st birthday)
- 1 dose Varicella (Chicken Pox)
- 1 dose Pneumococcal Vaccine (minimum of 1 dose after the 1st birthday)
- 1 dose Influenza (annually between September 1st to December 31st each year)
Lead Testing
The state of New Jersey requires all Pre-Kindergarten students to get lead tested. Please have your child tested prior to registering. Lead Poisoning can cause learning and behavior problems in children. Lead can also cause slowed growth, anemia, and hearing problems. A child might have lead in his or her blood, but still, look healthy. Prevent lead poisoning. Know your child’s lead number by talking with your physician or your local health department. Kindergarten
To register your child for this school year they MUST be at least 5 years old by October 1st.
For Kindergarten your child must have a current record of immunization (shot) records that are age-appropriate along with a current physical (must be signed and stamped by MD). These shots are required and are without exception:
- 4 doses DTaP with one dose given on or after the 4th birthday or any 5 doses
- 3 doses Polio with one dose given on or after the 4th birthday or any 4 doses
- 2 doses of MMR
- 1 dose HIB (age 12-59 months) minimum 1 dose given after the 1st birthday
- 3 doses of Hepatitis B
- 1 dose Varicella (Chicken Pox)
- 1 dose of PCV7/13 (age 12-59 months) minimum of 1 dose after the 1st birthday
- 1 dose Influenza (age 6-59 months) annually between September 1st to December 31st each year

Grades 1 through 5
To register your child for a school they must have a transfer and a current report card.

How long does the registration process take?
I do not have all the requirements; can I still keep my appointment?
A birth certificate, current physical, shot records, and completion of the online application, are mandatory.
If you have a problem completing the online registration process, an appointment is necessary.
We have a fax request form for school records that you can download and bring with you to your scheduled appointment (if necessary) or email it. There is a 48 hour turnaround time. Please have the previous school’s phone number, fax number, or email address. The name of a contact person would also be helpful.
Does the child have to be present at the time of registration?
No, children registering for the East Orange School District do not have to be present at the time of registration.

Can someone other than the parent register a child for school?
Registration must be done by a parent (named on the birth certificate) or a legal guardian (must present guardianship papers) who resides in East Orange.
When is the last day I can come in for registration?
Registration can take place at any point in the current school year if your child meets the age requirements.
