East Orange, NJ — [September 30, 2025] — Forty community leaders and district staff members kicked off a new initiative today to develop a five-year road map for the East Orange School District. The District selected Dr. Augustine Boakye, President, Essex County College; Dr. A. Tamika Quick, Assistant Secretary of Higher Education; and Dr. Daniel Jean, Assistant Provost for Special Programs, Montclair State University, to serve as the Tri-chairs of the “Transition Team” that will lead the year-long planning process. Sub-committees for Collaborative Partnerships, High-Impact Learning Experiences, and Safety & Value will be responsible for creating the specific short-term and long-term actions that will guide the district forward over the next five years.
“Our students are at the heart of our mission,” said Dr. Christopher C. Irving, Superintendent of Schools. “They deserve a safe, caring environment that not only helps them learn but also equips them for the future. The new District Strategic Plan will chart our five-year course, providing the actionable steps to achieve our goals. We are honored to have such dedicated leaders and community partners working with us to build this plan.”
East Orange Mayor Ted R. Green commented, “We’re launching a powerful, collaborative process to plan our district’s future. The entire community will have a chance to participate this year. I am personally calling on our parents, staff, students, and community partners to make sure they are part of this critical discussion.”
The recommended District Strategic Plan will be presented to the East Orange Board of Education for approval in June 2026. The final five-year plan will be available by July 2026.
