The East Orange School District has partnered with ESS to manage our Substitute Program. A leader in K-12 staffing, ESS will now be responsible for the hiring, training, and placement of Substitute Personnel working within the East Orange School District.

If you are applying for a Teacher Assistant position that requires a substitute certificate, please be advised of the following information.
The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) has changed the application process for substitute certificates.
All substitute credential applicants must apply online through the New Jersey Educator Certification (NJEdCert) Portal
ITEMS NEEDED TO APPLY FOR A SUBSTITUTE CERTIFICATE:
We only require a substitute certificate if applicant does not hold a valid New Jersey DOE teaching certification.- $125.00 - Payable to the Commissioner of Education (online)
- Criminal Background Check/Applicant Approval Employment History
- Completed Substitute Credential Application (NJEdCert)
- Oath of Allegiance (via email, once application is submitted)
- Official Transcripts (to be submitted directly to NJEdCert at [email protected])
