District Strategic Plan

The East Orange School District is currently working on the creation of a new District Strategic Plan that will drive our key priorities and goals for the next five years.

The district has established a Transition Team Committee, a body of committed partners to bring their voices, expertise, and perspectives to the important work ahead. Together, the Transition Team will:

Assess our current practices to identify both strengths and areas for growth
Integrate research and proven best practices into recommendations
Engage in thoughtful discussions that generate creative and effective solutions
Develop strategic proposals to advance the district toward its long-term goals

The Transition Team Committee is led by three Tri-State Co-Chairs and has been organized into three sub-committees, each focused on a critical area:

Collaborative Partnerships – strengthening relationships with parents, the community, higher education, local organizations, and the city
High-Impact Learning Experiences – ensuring our academic and extracurricular offerings are robust, engaging, and future-ready
Safety and Value – prioritizing a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for every student and staff member

Everyone’s participation will be instrumental in building a roadmap that carries the East Orange School District into its next chapter of excellence.

COLLABORATIVE PARTNERSHIPS SUBCOMMITTEE

Collaborative Partnerships are intentional, mutually beneficial relationships among community organizations, higher education institutions, businesses, and local government. These partnerships are built on trust, shared responsibility, and open communication, with the goal of expanding opportunities, resources, and support for

students and families.

As part of the groundwork of EOSD, it is important to first identify the types of relationships that exist or are needed. Recognizing the nature and depth of these relationships provides a foundation for building stronger, more purposeful collaboration.

At their core, collaborative partnerships:

Center Students: Place student learning, growth, and well-being at the heart of all efforts.
Promote Shared Responsibility: Recognize that schools, families, and communities all play critical roles in student success.
Leverage Collective Strengths: Draw on the unique expertise, resources, and perspectives of each partner.
Advance Equity: Ensure that all students and families have fair access to opportunities and supports.
Foster Sustainability: Build long-term, trust-based relationships that endure beyond one-time initiatives.

This working definition will guide the Collaborative Partnerships Subcommittee as it examines current practices, identifies opportunities, and recommends strategies to strengthen the ties between East Orange School District and its partners.

HIGH-IMPACT LEARNING EXPERIENCES SUBCOMMITTEE

High-Impact Learning Experiences are opportunities, both academic and extracurricular, that actively engage students in meaningful, rigorous, and relevant learning. These experiences strengthen academic achievement while also preparing students for college, careers, and life by fostering critical thinking, creativity, problem solving, and collaboration.

Such experiences include access to internships, mentorships, dual enrollment programs, career pathways, and enrichment opportunities beyond the classroom. By connecting students with resources and partners outside of school, the district ensures that every learner is exposed to real-world experiences that expand their

horizons, nurture their talents, and connect learning to future opportunities.

The goal is to guarantee that all students in the East Orange School District have equitable access to challenging coursework, robust extracurricular offerings, and future-ready experiences that prepare them for lifelong success.

SAFETY AND VALUE SUBCOMMITTEE

Safety and value is ensuring that all students, staff, and families experience schools as secure, supportive, and nurturing environments where teaching and learning can thrive. This includes physical safety, emotional and mental well-being, and cultivating a culture of respect, inclusion, and belonging.

The goal is to strengthen systems, practices, and resources that protect students and staff, while also affirming the value of every individual within the East Orange School District community.
