Jamillah Lawson-Oloye
Mrs. Jamillah Lawson-Oloye has been an East Orange resident at different intervals throughout her life. A native of Newark, NJ she graduated from William Paterson University with a Bachelor’s Degree in English Writing and Secondary Education in 2011. She received her Master’s Degree in Secondary Education and Administration from Montclair State University in 2018.
She began her educational career in Newark as a high school English teacher in 2011, at an alternative education school. It is here that she realized the impact of working with underserved youth. Working in the district under multiple leaders, she has been driven by the goals and data that support student achievement. Jamillah is a Vice Principal with Newark Public Schools, after serving as a Department Chairperson overseeing English and History content areas for the past 5 years.
Education is at the forefront of all that she does, and it radiates through her commitment to her role as Vice Principal. "I hope that through serving on this board, I can utilize my experiences as an educator, coupled with the vast experiences of the entire board, to catapult the quality of education received by ALL students within East Orange Public Schools to the next level."
Her most important role is being a mom to her 4 children, who she instills the importance of education to daily.
